TLT Food - Pasadena

TLT Food - Pasadena

A good foodie colleague of mine recommended this place that just opened not too long ago. Even though I work in Pasadena, surrounded my tons of restaurants, it's still hard to find a place to eat around here. After having dinner at TLT, it definitely felt like a breath of fresh air. There's a lot of variety on their menu with playful ingredients. I didn't find their menu to be boring, but unique to their offerings. TLT used to be a food truck. Like all ambitious entrepreneurs, only a few make it to open a brick and mortar.

Tamara getting her Monday drink on.

Shishito Peppers

Cali Ceviche - Cauliflower, Avocado, Lime, Red Onion, Cilantro, Jalapeño, Corn Tortilla Chips. Additional charge to add tuna.

Ahi Tuna Tostada - Tostada with Sushi Grade Ahi, Garlic Ginger Dressing, Pickled Veggies, Avocado, Lime, Cilantro, Iceberg & Sesame Seeds

Beet Salad - Pickled Golden Beets, Roasted Red Beets, Arugula, Mint, Spiced Candied Almonds & Whipped Goat Cheese

Pee Wee Potatoes - Cheese Sauce, Chimichurri, Scallions (these were freaking GOOD)

Blue Crab Grilled Cheese - Blue Crab, Cheese Blend, Scallions, Jalapeños, Sambal, Grilled Sourdough. No Substitutions (For $12, this was worth it.)

Amazing Chimmi Wings - Tossed in Chimichurri & Topped with Chipotle-Honey Aioli. Green Apple & Lime Garnish. 6 Wings total. These were one of the best wings I've had! Not comparing them to your typical bar wings or game day wings, but the flavor of these are so different than anything I've ever had. Must order. The lime does wonders to this as well.

I'm counting on them to stay open, so check them out.

Pata Salada

Pata Salada

Met my friend Bernadette for dinner at Pata Salada a few nights ago. It's always an exciting experience to eat together. Mainly because I try to force her to have a drink or two (or 5) with me.

Pata Salada prides in their seafood creations and dishes from the region Jalisco. With heavy emphasis on the region the food came from, they also have a big focus on the Tequila as well. Their tequila comes from 100% blue agave made in and around Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico. They not just carry 10 different tequilas, which is considerably a lot for a restaurant, but have over 70. Over 70 Tequilas to drink from. You can't tell me you can walk into a place that carry that many let alone 20. We were very pleased to taste a few of their starred dishes, tequilas, as well as a few new items they launched this week.

Tequila Cart

Our super sweet server being extremely patient as we snapped a few.

The tequila flight comes with 3 - 1oz pours.

Pacific Snapper Crudo

Pacific Snapper Crudo

I was relieved to taste different flavors in a crudo. This one in particular had their fish in a "Leche de tigre" or tiger's milk, which is a Peruvian term for the citrus-based marinade that cures the seafood in a ceviche. The crudo is dressed with avocados, sweet cherry tomatoes, avocado and basil.

Traditional Bass Ceviche

Traditional Bass Ceviche

The ceviche was packed in a cocktail glass mix with onions, tomatoes, cilantro, chili and lime. The ceviche was served with a side of blue corn chips.

Guacamole

Guacamole

Generous portions of guacamole mixed with pepitas, cherry tomatoes and ques fresco.

New Item - Iron Skillet Roasted Mussels

New Item - Iron Skillet Roasted Mussels

There is nothing I love more than the flavors of charred shellfish. These mussels are served LuLu style with chile lime butter. Mussels are served table top on a hot skillet so be careful.

New Item - Molten Quesadilla

New Item - Molten Quesadilla

Fried quesadilla stuffed with oaxaca cheese, mushrooms and huitlacoche.

Break for cocktails

Break for cocktails

2 sizeable drinks to have while we snack on our appetizers before the entrees. The blood orange one is their El Picante de Mango. Made with El Tesoro Reposado, Mango, chipotle and lime. Extremely delicious and I would even order this virgin for a nice sunny brunch. The lighter one, I believe, is their El Relajado. El Jimador Blanco with combier, agave and lime. Both super refreshing to have.

Pork Shank Carnitas

Pork Shank Carnitas

This pork shank was brined for 2 days before they slow cooked, then fried. Served on top of a chile morita orange salsa with rice and beans, and blue corn tortilla. This $59.95 handsome hunk will feed 2 or more. Depending on how many other dishes you order, I recommend ordering this with a bigger group of 4+ so you can try other items.

Whole Sea Bass

Whole Sea Bass

Their whole seabass was cooked with huacho salt, garlic chili lime butter with more garlic on top. Grilled lemons are served for a smokier citrus flavor. Rice, beans and blue corn tortillas are served.

Kahlua and Coffee Raspado is what we needed to pick us up from a night of feasting. Frozen coffee shaved like granita then topped with some creamy parfait. No complaints there.

Must come back for more tequila.

Cafe Beaujolais - The Birthday Dinner

Cafe Beaujolais - The Birthday Dinner

This post is a little delayed since my birthday was back in July. French cuisine has a big space in my heart when it comes to some of my favorite things to eat. This is my second time dining at Cafe Beaujolais. I fell madly in love the first time I came here and just as much the second time. It's located in the heart of Eagle Rock on Colorado between La Roda Avenue and Mt Royal Drive.

1712 Colorado Boulevard, Los Angeles, California 90041

I don't know much about the history besides it being here for quite some time. They are not just known for their fairly priced dishes, but their hunky European men that work there. And, they pretty much all have accents.

John took me here again since he knew it was my top favorite restaurants. The first thing we ordered were their Escargot. These snails were shelled, and cooked in the most luscious butter garlic parsley sauce known to man. Goes amazing with the bread they offer and dangerous for the body. John dislikes Escargot, but loves the ones they serve here.

We had their special salad of the day which was a prosciutto di parma wrapped frisee.

Dressed in a light vinaigrette with a few cornichons. Sounds simple, but was packed with flavor. I will definitely get this again if it's available.

Steak "Maitre D'Hotel" - Thin cut Girlled Top Sirloin Served with garlic butter and frites. I wished the steak was a New York or Rib Eye, but there was still a lot of flavor from the steak. The garlic butter was soft and melted throughout the steak. Pretty straightforward.

My choice:

Pave De Boeuf Au Porto Et Au Roquefort - Flamed Filet Mignon in Port Sauce and Roquefort Cheese, medium rare. I was nervous to order this. From 1-10 I was probably a 20. I'm not a fan of stinky cheese and hate Gorgonzola and goat cheese (I know). I just can't get passed the flavors. But, I love some bleu like Stilton. This Roquefort cheese was delicious. Has a slight sharp bite, but doesn't taste overly fermented or stinky. It was lovely mixed into the port wine and the filet. This dish just isn't the same without it. Served with a side of potato au gratin and veggies. I recommend this dish.

If you are in the area or just looking for a fantastic, authentic French restaurant, please check out Cafe Beaujolais. It's fantastic. Don't forget to order their specials. They do the traditional coq au vin from time to time.

Momed - Atwater Village

Momed - Atwater Village

I'm a firm believer about eating somewhere more than once, and the same goes with sharing it over again. I think one of the best compliments you can give a restaurant is going back again to show your appreciation for the food. Momed is a place that I speak highly of. I've never been to the location in Beverly Hills, but the location in Atwater Village is one that I've been to a few times (still thank my friend John Quintus for the recommendation).

I came here one Sunday in the late afternoon with my best friends after having a few drinks in Atwater Village. Like a pirate, I wailed my hands as I told them about Momed. "It's that way!" - with no slurs of course. For a moment, I was not confident I was headed towards the right direction. Momed is actually tucked away from the main strip in Atwater, but more within the residentials between studios and playhouses.

They only carry wine and beer which is fine with me. I am very excited at this point. It's also quite lovely that the train passes through next door.

Grilled artichoke cooked to perfection with a preserved lemon aioli. The artichoke is seasoned lightly with Moroccan spices. All the crispy edges and tender parts towards the heart were literally finger licking good. I felt like I was engulfing the pedals. This is a must order if you are a huge fan of artichokes.

Oven Roasted Salmon

This oven roasted salmon is one of the best prepared fishes I've had. Served with seasonal vegetables and a cashew salsa. I'm sure this is something easy that they've created, but it was ridiculously delicious. The salmon was just cooked PERFECTLY. The Moroccan spices were mild and not over powering. The seasonal veggies were generous and not dinky. I still remember the salmon like a past summer fling I've never had. It's just so good I would think that's what it feels like.

Without further ado, the address is 3245 Casitas Ave, Atwater CA 90039.

They also serve breakfast and brunch. ( K i l l e r)

Nook Bistro - Los Angeles/Sawtelle

Nook Bistro is the perfect neighborhood spot to get your grub on. When we arrived, it immediately felt like a place you would need to be in the know to find. The restaurant is tucked away in a plaza and extremely easy to miss. So make apple maps or google maps your best friend.

Manhattan

Yes, they have a full bar with a big list of cocktails for you to try. I've decided to switch it up tonight by sipping a Manhattan instead of my usual Old Fashion. It was perfect for the evening. And I honestly just wanted the Luxardo cherry. It's a great treat to have once the drink is finished.

Chicken Meatballs

This was new on the Happy Hour Menu. Generous sized meatballs in a delicious marinara sauce.

Shrimp Tacos

Lightly fried tortilla filled with blackened shrimp, cabbage, roasted poblano pepper, avocado crema. The shrimp had a lot of flavor and packed a lot more wow than how it looks. This item is also in their happy hour.

New Zealand Green Lip Mussel Pan Roast

The New Zealand Green Lip Mussel is cooked with andouile sausage, oven-dried tomato, garlic, herbs and white wine saffron broth. My favorite part was dipping that bread into that saffron white wine broth.

Crispy Fried Calamari

This calamari is fried then tossed in a citrus-soy vinaigrette and served with a wasabi dipping sauce. Fried Calamari is always a go to in my book no matter how overdone it is on menus.

10oz Prime Rib Eye

The prime rib eye is seared to a perfect medium rare served with brandy sauteed apples, mushroom demi-glace, and crispy buttermilk onion rings. Every post workout meal should look like this. Pair this with a glass of wine(s) for the ultimate satisfaction.

Shrimp and Grits

These Spicy Gulf shrimp is prepared with Logan's Turnpike Stone ground grits and linguisa sausage. The sausage was nice and smokey which went really well with the creamy grits. The shrimps were plump and cooked perfectly. If everyone had shrimp and grits, the world would be a better place.

Scallop Risotto

These large dayboat scallops are pan seared and served on top of a shiitake and english pea risotto, slow dried tomato, and shellfish broth. It's fantastic when scallops get a beautiful caramelized sear like this, makes them that much sweeter.

Key Lime Pie

Silky Key lime pie with a blueberry compote and whipped cream. Goes great with a cup of black coffee.

I recommend making reservations.
