Lawry's The Prime Rib - Beverly Hills

Lawry's The Prime Rib - Beverly Hills

Being in a family of meat eaters, we've never really dined out for Prime Rib. A chophouse is something we are more prone to show up at, but we decided to check out Lawry's for my dad's birthday. You may know them for their seasonings sold in markets, but they actually have a few restaurants dedicated to their classic old fashioned Prime Rib served tableside.

Fresh Sourdough still hot and steamy.

So good, but beware! If you plan to order additional sides with your meal, this will definitely make you full quicker.

An order of Prime Rib comes with a spinning salad as a starter.

Horseradish cream with horseradish on the side if you like more kick.

The Prime Rib silver cart comes rolling by as soon as your plates are cleared. Your server will ask which cut you would like. We all ordered their signature Lawry's cut. They also have a California cut which is slightly smaller and the English cut which is 3 thin sliced (though I saw some having 2, maybe it depends on the size of the roast). There is also 2 sizes over Lawry's cut. The Jim Brady followed by the Bowl Cut. Pick your poison. Basically, pick how long you would like to hibernate for. Each plate comes with a splat of mashed potatoes and gravy with a Yorkshire pudding.

Medium Rare. With Au Jus. I skipped the horseradish cream and went straight for the horseradish. We ordered all the sides. From creamed corn to creamed spinach. A small disclaimer that the spinach has bacon.

Happy Birthday Dad!

The Restaurant - The Getty Center

The Restaurant is located in the Restaurant/Cafe building (upstairs from the cafeteria). The Restaurant offers full service in an elegant setting with views of the Santa Monica Mountains. Menus do change seasonally and the restaurant is opened for dinner service during summer.

I've passed by The Restaurant many times, but never thought about dining here. They have a pretty prestigious menu that compliments the art pieces you can find at the museum. Everything we had was fantastic.

Pepper Tomato Gazpacho - Recommended to open your palate.

Mission IPA

I think I had 3 slices of bread. Incredible with the soft butter served alongside.

Beet Hummus - Toasted Cumin, Cilantro Pistou with Pappadam Crisps. ADDICTING.

BBQ Flat Bread - Grilled Flatbread, smoky barbeque pulled pork, white cheddar, arugula and red onions.

Rucola con Pecorino arugula, crisp apple, applewood smoked salami shaved pecorino toscano, white balsamic

SUMMER FRUIT PANZANELLA  marinated mozzarella, wild rocket, torn croutons, pistachio honey balsamic. Seasonal Peaches and cherries were the summer fruits of the day. Delicious.

Crudo scallop, garlic oil, capers, tomato coulis fresno pepper

Chefs take on Pozole. PORK LOIN - Hominy, ancho puree, papaya cabbage slaw, cilantro. One of my favorite dishes.

PRIME FILET OF BEEF - potato pancake, spicy sweet glaze, crispy onion, pickled vegetables.

Prawns Pomodoro - locally milled wheat pasta, heirloom tomatoes garlic, basil

Dessert

Perfect restaurant to go for a special occasion or just to treat yourself to a nice meal before or after walking the Getty.

Bowl Kitchen - Santa Monica

An LA inspired approach on Vietnamese cuisine. The chef boils the bones for 7-8 hours before roasting the bones in the oven to create more depth of flavor. The owner was also inspired by LA street tacos so you'll also find salsa verde and pickled habanero as condiments besides Sriracha.

Vietnamese coffee pick me up.

Fresh herbs for the pho.

Starting the meal with some egg rolls (Shrimp & Pork).

Beef Mi - Grilled beef, cucumber, cilantro, jalapeno, pickled daikon, carrots and red onion. My favorite bite. I topped this off with some pickled habanero for that summer heat.

Spicy Pork Bowl Bop - Griled spicy pork with grilled mixed veggies

Pho Combo - Beef Steak and Brisket.

Napa Valley Grille - Westwood

I've been to Napa Valley Grille before and find how crazy time flies since it's been a year the last time I talked about it. Last year during my first visit, it was for their grand reopening after an amazing 2 million dollar renovation. Now I am back to try a few additions to their menu.

Here are the new items on the menu:

Dinner Menu

  • Grilled Ancho-Crusted Albacore Tuna
  • Seasonal Harvest Salad
  • Caesar Salad
  • Crescenza Cheese & Serrano Ham Tartine
  • Oven-Roasted Jidori Chicken Breast
  • Bucatini Pomodoro
  • Grilled Prime New York Strip
  • Grilled Wagyu Tomahawk Chop

Sides:

  • Creamy Polenta
  • Sautéed Brussel Sprouts
  • Charred Marble Potatoes
  • Sautéed Wild California Mushrooms
  • Cavatappi Mac and Cheese

Desserts:

  • Dark Chocolate Fudge Brownie
  • Warm Sticky Toffee Date Cake
  • Strawberry Vanilla Mascarpone Cake

Charcuterie - Prosciutto, duck salumi, soppressata, housemade brandied chicken liver pâté, seasonal jam, and charred rustic bread

My favorite bite was a slab of chicken liver pâté on top on the rustic bread with a smear of their jam.

Grilled Ancho-Crusted Albacore Tuna -peppercress, pink peppercorn, lavosh, dill sauc

Prime NY Strip - 14 oz, charred onion-thyme jam, green peppercorn-cognac jus. Cooked Medium Rare.

208 Rodeo - Beverly Hills

Rodeo Drive is definitely a tourist trap. But, as much as it is, there are plenty of great restaurants around there that I am willing to drive out for. 208 Rodeo definitely caught me off guard. I was very pleased with what I had tried. Typical brunch items are normally what you would expect from one to another. What I had here was not only delicious but convinced me that I would come back for brunch if I ever was in the area.

Flatiron Steak, roasted potatoes, eggs, and toast. The flatiron was cooked perfectly, extremely tender, ridiculously juicy.

CRAB CAKE BENEDICT - Loaded Crab Cake, grilled tomato, poached eggs, English muffin, and topped with a lemon hollandaise sauce. What I couldn't get over was the lemon hollandaise. Such a slight citrus touch, but made the dish very bright.
